One of the best-kept secrets in Warwickshire, the acclaimed international artist Al Davison established his studio in Coventry's Canal Basin and cultural quarter in early 2005, quite a coup given Davison's reputation as one of the World's leading cartoon graphic artists. His DC Vertigo portfolio is perhaps best known but it's the spectrum of work at Davison's canal basin home which makes the AG experience so extraordinary. Part attraction, part shopping experience, Davison's new home is something of a tour de force. From originals to prints, the quality of art repro is first class. In some ways it's like a Bob Dylan fan finding out that Bob has set up shop round the corner. Davison's art itself is hard to define latterly the inspiration comes from a complex mix of Buddhism and (related) commitment to peace. It's hard to think of a better fit for Coventry given its credentials as the world's city of reconciliation and equally it's hard to think of a more unique, often extraordinary shopping experience.
