The Dream Factory, and its Playbox Theatre child, has garnered a devotion amongst the people of the region for both the quality of its productions and, as importantly, its passion to inspire younger artists and a younger audience into the theatre and performing arts. The result of this passion to drive theatre forward is a brilliant mix of productions, ranging from the classics and Shakespeare to Anderson's Little Mermaid. Through workshops, a massive outreach program - and most of all through word of mouth, Playbox is doing more for theatre in the UK than many of the Theatre's so called most recognised "names." And with over 1,000 young people working with the theatre each week, not to mention significant audiences running into the tens of thousands each year, the theatre deserves every accolade for both delivering theatre and delivering the future of theatre. If the aim of the Dream Factory is to produce " a model national theatre for young people" the true net effect has been much wider in delivering a theatre that, through its inclusiveness and openness to new ideas and a philosophy of viva la difference, delivers a theatre model for us all.
